„Schon immer wollte ich ein Unternehmen gründen, das Wicked heißt…“
… aber es hat ein bisschen länger gedauert, als ich dachte. Ich habe ein paar Jahre bei der BMW AG damit zugebracht (um genau zu sein, es waren 20!), alles zu lernen, was man über Premium Mobility wissen muss.
Warum Wicked? Wicked hat viele Bedeutungen. Ein bisschen verrückt sein, anders, als der Durchschnitt, aber auf jedem Fall ist mit Wicked etwas ganz Besonderes gemeint.
Wie ich auf die Idee kam, das Wicked E-Bike zu bauen.
Die Idee ein ganz besonderes Bike zu bauen, reifte in China, wo ich für BMW war. In Asien also, wo all die wunderbaren, seltsam anmutenden, poppigen, elektrischen Fahrzeuge umherfahren. Dann kam ich zurück nach München. Wir waren mit Freunden in den Alpen zum mountainbiken. Da wurde mir klar, dass es einen wachsenden Markt für die Kombination von E-Mobilität, Outdoor-Erlebnis und Tourismus gibt. Ganz besonders für E-Bikes (oder Pedelecs), also für Räder, die mit einem Elektromotor ausgestattet sind, und damit beim Fahren auf Geschwindigkeiten von 25km/h bzw. bei Pedelecs auf 45km/h kommen.
Diese E-Bikes faszinierten mich, weil durch sie, anders als mit dem herkömmlichen Fahrrad, neue Touren, anderes Gelände, großartige Outdoor Erlebnisse möglich sind. Ich habe dann intensiv den Markt untersucht und die mich mit der Frage auseinandersetzt: Was wünschten sich die Radfahrer?
Viele sagten mir, dass Sie Fahrrad fahren, um gesund und fit zu bleiben und aber gern die Vorzüge eines Elektromotors in Anspruch nehmen wollen. Nämlich um eine größere Reichweite und längere Strecken zu bewältigen. Andere wiederum suchen EIN E-Bike für den Alltag, das alles kann. Nicht eines, um zur Arbeit zu fahren, und ein anderes um in der Freizeit im Gelände oder in den Bergen unterwegs zu sein.
Wie das Wicked E-Bike ein Fatbike wurde
So haben wir unsere Design- und Konstruktionsphase unter dem Motto „Alles ist möglich“ begonnen. Ich stehe auf kreative Projekte. Zusammen stellten wir uns die Frage: Was sollte ein Wicked E-Bike wirklich können und wie sollte es aussehen?
Wir wollten etwas Einmaliges, Individuelles und sehr Spezielles schaffen. Wir wollen, dass Du stolz auf Dein Wicked E-Bike bist. Wir wollen, dass Du mit einem Grinsen im Gesicht aufsteigst, weil Du die Gewissheit hast, dass eine coole Fahrt vor Dir liegt. – Check!
In der Designphase hatten wir den SUV der E-Bikes im Kopf. Und so waren wir uns beim Prototypen sicher, dass es ein E-Fatbike sein muss. Kein anderen Bike ist für so geländetauglich, wie unser Wicked E-Bike, auch das normale Mountainbike nicht. – Check!
Und es reicht nicht, nur ein genial aussehendes E-Fatbike zu konstruieren. Um ein echtes Wicked E-Fatbike zu bauen, braucht es den besten E-Bike Motor, den es auf dem Markt gibt. Deshalb verwende ich den in Deutschland entwickelten TQ-Drives mit 120 Nm, Power und Performance vom Feinsten. #flyuphill (Flieg den Berg hinauf) …Und ich sage Dir: Du wirst hochfliegen… – Check!
Und jetzt bringen wir unser Wicked E-Fatbike 2018 Edition auf den Markt. Jetzt sehen wir, wie unser Prototyp und die Vorserien-Bikes getestet wurden: In den Bergen, durch tiefen Schnee und Sand, und auf 80-Kilometer-Touren mit einer Akkuladung. Wir können wirklich sagen, unsere E-Fatbikes sind etwas ganz Besonderes und ziemlich verrückt. Probier es aus – Du wirst es lieben!
We are Wicked – Are you Wicked too?
How I came up with the idea for Wicked E-Bikes.
As long as I can remember, I have wanted to create a company called Wicked…
(Though I must admit it has just taken a little longer because I have been very busy working and learning about premium mobility for the last 20 years at BMW AG).
Why Wicked?
Well Wicked has many meanings, but to me means a little crazy, being different to the mainstream but ALWAYS something very very special.
These Wicked ideas and dreams started to become clearer while we were living in China on a BMW project and were seeing all kinds of weird and wonderful electric vehicles popping up and cruising around Asia. On returning to Munich in good old Germany and while out mountain biking with friends in the Austrian Alps I then began to see the first signs of a fit emerging between the growing trends of e-mobility, outdoor lifestyle and tourism. This was especially true in the area of E-Bikes (or Pedelecs, as they are also known, where you as a rider are assisted by an electric motor, whilst pedalling at speeds of up to 25km/h or S-Pedelecs for speed & distance commuting up to 45km/h).
The idea of a wicked E-Bike
This whole idea of E-Bikes was fascinating to me as it meant being able to massively extend the possibilities of a regular bike and open up totally new opportunities, tours and terrains in the great outdoors as well as solving the pains I was hearing from my research…
More and more people were telling me that wanted to still be active and healthy while riding their bikes but also benefit from the added advantages of range and distance provided by an electric motor. Others were saying they wanted just one E-Bike for all situations and rides, rather than having different bikes for their daily commute to and from work or when they just want to go out riding and exploring through the trails or in the mountains.
I have always believed that if you can think it, then you can make it happen, and with this in mind I set the goal of creating the SUV of E-Bikes… I wanted to create a Wicked E-Bike!… 😉
The Project
We began the design and engineering phase under the motto of * Everything is possible * and since I love creative projects, we got together and dived into the question of ‚What should a Wicked E-Bike really be able to do and look like?‘
We wanted to create something unique, individual and very special so that every time you were on your Wicked E-Bike, you would be making a statement and have a massive smile on your face, knowing that you would be in for an amazing ride. – Check!
We designed with the „SUV of E-Bikes“ in mind and quickly came to the conclusion in our early prototyping phase that it had to be an E-Fatbike, because all other types of bike, including regular e-MTBs were just not able to handle the different terrains we we building for – Check!
It would not be enough to just create a great looking E-Fatbike. To make it a really Wicked E-Fatbike, it would need the best E-Bike motor on the market. This is why I chose the German engineered TQ-Drives motor, made in Germany with 120 Nm torque of pure power and performance. #flyuphill … You definitely do… – Check!
Now as we come to market and launch the Wicked E-Fatbike 2018 Edition and see how our prototype and pre-series bikes have been tested climbing to the tops of mountains, through deep snow and sand as well as on tours with ranges of 80km on one charge, we can definitely say our E-Bikes are definitely very very special and definitely very Wicked!
